Tips and tricks
- Accuracy with the flours is crucial when making a gluten free apple cobbler.
- Make sure to measure the grams or use my method for accurate results.
- I measured the flours by scooping the measuring tool into the flour and then scraping the extra off with a knife.
- Be aware of the almond flour you use because some produce less fluffy results than others, I use fine grain.
- Add a sugary topping by sprinkling sugar over the top when it's done baking. Broil for 1-2 minutes to get a brown crust.
- Peeling the apples isn't absolutely necessary, however removing the skin results in a more uniform texture.
- Try to chop the apples in similar size chunks so they cook evenly.
- The flavor of the apple will affect the flavor of your cobbler. For a sweet taste, use red apples, honeycrisp, or gala. For a more tart flavor use green apples.
Common Questions
Mix chopped apples with filling ingredients then pour into a baking dish. Top with biscuit dough and bake! See the recipe below for more information on how to make an apple cobbler.
There are a few theories for this, but the general consensus is that the topping resembles a cobblestone road.
Runny cobblers can be caused by using fruit that is too juicy, or if it hasn't had enough time to rest. The filling will thicken upon cooling, so if it's too runny let it sit a little longer before digging in.
One of the best ways to serve cobbler is with a scoop of ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Either way it tastes great!
