Tips for Cutting Pineapple
Grilling pineapple slices or wedges is easiest so they don't fall through the grates. Don't worry though, cutting up a whole pineapple isn't quite as hard as it seems!
- Most importantly, make sure you use a really sharp knife.
- You can either cut off the rind or keep it on.
- Slice off the top and bottom of the pineapple.
- Cut it in half length wise.
- Remove the core, then slice into ½ - ¾ inch thick pieces.
- How many pieces you get will depend on size of slices.
- I got about 16 pieces (8 each half).
Preparation Tips
- Either a grill or pan will work. You can use a pan with grates for added aesthetics, but any pan works. Or use an outdoor grill or electric panini-like grill.
- Using fresh pineapple will give you the best flavor. In a pinch you can use frozen, but make sure to defrost it first. If you have to use canned, make sure to buy the kind that’s in pineapple juice, not syrup.
- How long to grill the pineapple will depend on your grill or pan. Keep an eye on the slices and pull them off once dark brown grill marks appear.
- Prepare the pineapple in advance to save on time day of.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.
