A power bowl for the gods. Loads of veggies and protein smothered in a ridiculously amazing sauce. One bowl, one fully healthy meal. Easy and delicious!
I read an article recently that said food blog readers don't really care what the blogger has to say in their post, they skip directly to the recipe. Well, point taken, so I'm going to make this post short and sweet:
YOU NEED TO MAKE THE BBQ TAHINI SAUCE AND SLATHER IT OVER THIS POWER BOWL...does that work for you all??
But really, I get it. You like our food. And I like creating it for you! So it's a win win situation. Since it's past midnight, and I'm still up diligently editing pictures next to my beautiful sleeping baby so that I can get this recipe up for all you amazing readers, I actually will cut this one short.
But mainly because there isn't much to say about this super easy to make and even easier to eat power bowl. Well, and I also really want to go snuggle my baby. LOL!
The Barbecue Tahini Sauce is Everything!
So get yourself to the store and stock up on ingredients! Try this power bowl and use the rest of that amazing sauce on anything and everything in your fridge.

BBQ Tahini Power Bowl
Ingredients
- 2 cups beans I used a sprouted bean mix
- 2 cups brown rice
- 4 cups veggie broth (to boil rice) can sub water
- 1 bunch kale swiss chard or spinach (or a mix)
- 2 spring onions
- 24 ounces purple potatoes or any potato you prefer
- 1 avocado
- lemon pepper to taste
- veggie broth or your favorite oil if you use oil to roast veggies
- BBQ Tahini Sauce
Instructions
- Wash and coarsely chop kale/chard/spinach. Wash and chop spring onion. Saute all in a large pan with a little veggie broth (or oil if you are using it), salt and lemon pepper until greens are just wilted. Remove from heat when they begin to turn bright green.
- Cook rice with veggie broth or water according to package directions. Cook beans according to package directions if they are not cooked.
- Make sauce according to recipe.
- Arrange meal by putting it all into a bowl, in a side by side fashion. Place about ¼ cup BBQ Tahini Sauce into center, you may use more or less sauce for your preference.
Notes
- Any beans you enjoy work here, I like a variety of beans so I used a mix. You can use cooked or raw beans, if raw just cook them before.
- You can sub quinoa or even farro for the brown rice. We tried it all and it all worked great.
- You will have left over sauce, but it is so versatile it can be used for so much.
- Tips to prep ahead: Wash and chop all the veggies beforehand. Make the sauce. All you have to do the day of is cook rice and veggies.

I made this last night. My 2 daughters didn't did the sauce, but we did! This was incredibly good and addictive. I used swiss chard sauteed with garlic, white potatoes, no avocados because all the ones we had went straight to the compost (all brown and hard), cannellini beans, and I used smoked paprika instead of liquid smoke. It was perfect. Thanks for posting this!
Julie
*dig*, not did.

OH Smoked paprika is a great idea!

judee@ Gluten Free A-Z Blog
I do enjoy what bloggers have to say about the recipe. I scroll down when they start talking about something unrelated. Your recipe and photos look awesome. I do have one question. When you saute the greens and onion is it in broth or oil? thank
veggiesdontbite
Hi Judee! Thanks so much for being here and reading what I have to say! You can sauté the greens and onion with either broth or oil, but I use broth. The more and more I cook healthy meals, the less I am liking using oil in my food. So it is just a personal preference! I mention in the ingredients that the broth is to sauté the veggies, but I'll add it in the directions too. Thanks! If you try it, let me know what you think!
Amber

/this looks amazing and I will def try. I do enjoy what food bloggers have to say - in general. But like anything else, it depends on the quality of the writing! I like to laugh, or learn something, or connect if the writer has an interesting perspective on things or just supports my life style in some way. These photos are so amazing! WEll done and thanks!!
veggiesdontbite
Thank you SO much for all the blog love Kathleen! And glad to hear you like what I have to say. LOL. I thought it was an interesting article and was hoping some of my readers actually liked my thoughts on how I created my recipe. I try my best to make people laugh and get inside my head with my creations. And I really appreciate the photo love! I had to work hard for a good shot of this. The lighting was just off that day! I really appreciate you being here!
Cadry
That's interesting about blog readers not reading the post and just scrolling to the recipe. Do you remember where you found that article? I'd enjoy reading it. Personally, I'm always more interested in the stuff before the recipe. I like knowing about the person who created it. And really, I read food blogs more for the human interest stories than for the recipes themselves, but shots of food are much appreciated too! 🙂
Speaking of food, this bowl looks terrific! All of the elements sound delicious, and that sauce takes it over the top.
veggiesdontbite
Thank you SO much Cadry! I read the article on facebook, my source for news. LOL. I also love hearing what my fellow bloggers have to say but I figure it also has to do with me wanting to hear their creative process since I am in the field. If I see the article again I'll pass it on! Thank you for the kind words about the recipe! The sauce is an obsessions for sure! And it goes amazing in that bowl! I loved your review on Annie's book btw!
