Add in suggestions
Pack in some extra nutrients by adding any of the following:
- Leafy greens, like spinach or chard.
- Oats.
- Chia or flax seeds.
- Nuts, such as cashews or walnuts.
- Protein powder
Preparation tips
- Any dairy free milk will work for this recipe, my favorite is coconut since it's extra creamy, but you can use cashew, almond, or any other dairy free milk you choose.
- Frozen berries are not only convenient but they give this smoothie its wonderful texture. If you use fresh, you'll want to add in some ice cubes.
- Same goes for the frozen banana. It will add the right texture, and you don't have to worry about the banana spoiling before you can use it! If all you have is fresh though, it will work, just throw in a couple ice cubes.
- You can use any yogurt you like, but know that if it's sweetened you may want less banana so it isn't overly sweet.
- Prepare this smoothie ahead of time by measuring out the ingredients and storing them portioned in jars. I'd keep the frozen ingredients in freezer, and the refrigerated ingredients (and almond butter if using) in the fridge. In the morning, dump into a blender and blend!
- You can also freeze the fully blended smoothie and re blend it to serve.
Common Questions
They are! Especially if you keep the ingredients simple and healthy. Berry smoothies pack in a ton of antioxidants and nutrients, and this one in particular also has protein and probiotics, making it even healthier.
Yes! Bananas add such great flavor to smoothies, but they also help to make a thick and creamy texture. Plus, bananas give a burst of energy while supplying us with potassium and vitamin C and helping to aid digestion!
Any berry you like! I used a mixed berry blend that features blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries in this recipe. Strawberries can be added as well. Enjoy all of them together, or try them one at a time for a variety of flavors.
