These melt in your mouth chocolate truffles are incredible. They are especially great to mix and match with peanut butter balls around the holidays to bring to all the festivities.
Ingredients
Not only is this vegan truffle recipe so delicious, but it is SO easy to make. I'm not joking when I say I made a batch with one child hanging on each of my legs and one in my arms.
For the truffle itself you'll just need a handful of things:
- Chocolate chips - keep this recipe vegan by selecting dairy-free chocolate chips. Choose a flavor you prefer, but I recommend making vegan dark chocolate truffles!
- Light coconut milk - this is my go-to for this recipe, but other dairy free milks will work as well. Some even like to use coconut cream or full-fat coconut milk.
- Vanilla extract - this adds some subtle sweetness without being overwhelming.
- Cinnamon - this is optional but tastes so good! Swap it out for other seasonings, or simply leave it out all together for plain chocolate truffles.
- Sea salt - salt helps to bring out all the flavors.
For a variety of flavors, gather these optional toppings:
- Cocoa powder - both cocoa and cacao powder are perfect for dusting over the truffles for a dry chocolate coating.
- Chopped nuts - use any you like! Try hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans, almonds, pistachios, etc.
- Crushed pretzels - the saltiness is so good!
- Dried fruit - chop it up into small pieces first.
How To Make Vegan Truffles
As I mentioned, it's so easy to make these vegan chocolate truffles, you're going to have to use self control to not make them all. the. time.
- Melt the chocolate chips in a small saucepan or in the microwave.
- Pour the melted chocolate and all other base ingredients in a food processor.
- Blend the chocolate mixture until smooth.
- Scoop into balls and freeze, then roll them smooth.
- Coat in toppings.
- Enjoy!
Flavor suggestions
Experimenting with different flavors is so much fun, it's hard to go wrong! Try any of these mix ins or decorations to make this recipe for vegan truffles your own unique creation:
- Coconut sugar and cinnamon mix
- Dried cranberries
- Cacao nibs
- Sprinkles
- Shredded coconut
Preparation Tips
- It’s critical to have all your ingredients at room temperature or the chocolate will harden, ruining the texture of the truffles.
- You can add toppings if you prefer or just keep them plain.
- If you are mixing in other ingredients, blend the base ingredients first until smooth, then add the mix ins and pulse just until mixed.
- You can also add one more tablespoon of coconut milk if you want these on the softer side. They will be less dense, a bit more like fudge.
- Use your microwave to melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. I microwaved for 1 minute and 30 seconds, in 15 second increments stirring in between.
- These make excellent gifts! Wrap a handful up in cute little bags or mini mason jars to share the love.
Tips for Rolling Truffles
- These get a little messy because of how creamy they are. You can coat your hands in cocoa powder, which acts like a flour as a barrier and sucks up moisture when you roll.
- Cover your workspace in parchment paper. Not only will it make cleanup easier, but it's non-stick!
- Use a melon baller or teaspoon measuring spoon to scoop out the chocolate ganache to keep the sizing similar.
- Scoop and roll the truffles, flash freeze, then roll again into a perfectly smooth ball.
- If the mixture is too soft to work with, chill it in the fridge or freezer for a few to harden it up.
- If you accidentally harden it too much, just let it rest at room temperature until it is soft enough to roll.
Common Questions
These vegan truffles will keep in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. You can also store them in a tightly sealed freezer safe container in the freezer for up to three months.
Not usually, as they contain cream and butter, not to mention a lot of chocolate contains dairy. This recipe however is completely vegan!
There are many great vegan chocolate options out there. It's generally pretty easy to find a really good dark chocolate that's vegan, even if it isn't labeled as such. Usually higher end dark chocolates don't contain any dairy, so just make sure to check out the ingredient list.

I couldn't be trusted in a room with these.

I agree. You shouldn't be trusted. Nothing comes good with trusting someone NOT to eat chocolate 😉
Maureen
So this recipe serves 1, right?? Because I really don't want to share with anyone else! 🙂
veggiesdontbite
Yup. Exactly. See you and I would be friends. But not the kind that share chocolate...
